A huge mistake?

First thing this morning, there was absolutely no snow at all in the Cambridge area. Fuck all.

The paths were clear, the roads were well gritted and almost dry in places. The kids, due back to school tomorrow, were devastated.

So, with a heavy heart, and trying to ignore the thought that everyone else in England is probably still in bed, CF set off on the commute to London.

The train set off from a dry station, only a few minutes behind schedule.

By the time the train got to Bishops Stortford, a few miles south, there was 3-4 inches of snow on the ground.

By Harlow, it was snowing.

Now, out of the train window, everything is covered in a thick blanket of the fucking stuff.

So now, what to do? What to do? What the fuck to do?

Press on, at risk of being stuck on the train, or stuck in London?

Jump off at an intermediate station and head back North?

Fuck it.

Was setting off this morning a huge mistake, or what?

Yes.

I could have made it in to work easily today.

But I was worried about making it home again if the further threatened snowfall materialised!

I had trouble getting into the office today.

Someone had left a bloody shoe on the stairs and I almost broke my neck.

I find this story almost too incredible.

3-4 ins. of snow and the train was still moving? Nah, it's just not possible.

Go home, if you haven't already.

Two feet of snow where I am.

I stayed home for fear of worsening weather. I heard that the few brave souls who struggled in have been sent home early as the weather is closing in. Go home.

Get yourself home, CF. I have what looks to be an inch-plus of snow and I'm in south Dorset- it NEVER snows here. I can't imagine it's anything but worse where you are. Either go home now or be prepared for an overnight in London.

What the others said, assuming you've not gone home already.

I commute to London too (from Bucks). I shall be off very shortly to do what I can from home.

Belated New Year Greetings to CF & all other contributors ..

I drove home from Cambs on Monday in glorious sunshine .. got back to Lincs where it snowed on Monday night & has been snowing pretty much ever since .. We've now got 3-4 inches here, though being in a coastal location it shouldn't linger for long due to the salt in the atmosphere ..

The roads & footways are treacherous (again down to our Winky-Wanky Limp Dem Council), though being happily retired, I don't have to worry about work any longer .. those who do have my sympathy ..

Dad, mum says get out of the pub right now and come home, cause it's blizzarding in Cambridge now. Can't get you on your mobile. She is going to knife you up if you can't get home tonight, and I do mean that.
Love you xx

Beautiful sunshine here in Scotland. It's glistening off the hard packed snow/ice which has been lying for over two weeks.

Just too cold for any thaw though.

I see from my Local News tonight that our pathetic excuse for a Council has suspended Refuse collections "until further notice, due to the snow" .. Errm .. that'll be the roads which the same bunch of halfwits have failed to grit then ?

Also that the majority of Schools in my area remain closed .. after nearly 3 weeks holiday !!! .. I suspect this to be partly a conspiracy between lazy, Labour lovin', lefty Teachers & like-minded Councillors ..

I never remember a School being closed "due to snow" in my school days .. anyone else remember this namby-pamby attitude being adopted ?

Is the whole of the UK deep in snow apart from Mordon? I've can't see anything happening outside that would require the closing of schools or the need to stay home from work. What's going on?????
