GCSE results

CF is about to take his eldest daughter to her school, to discover whether she's been awarded any GCSE's at all.

She is the part of the first school year to receive an education to GCSE entirely under a Labour Government. Since she can spell her own name, and just about make a sandwich, she's probably due a shedload of the virtually worthless things.

** Update ** : she did very well; thanks for all the good wishes. Nearly as interesting were Ed Balls' comments on qualifications. Dear god...

The only way I see any government being forced into improving educational standards is by mass protest from parents and withdrawing their children from schools.

Then perhaps politicians and educationalists would start doing a proper job.

subrosa - I fear that, in that event, the only people who started taking their jobs seriously would be the attendance officers.

Anyway, anyone who can is doing that already - until the credit crunch, private school rolls had been increasing steadily since 1997.

Thanks, all, for the wishes. She did really well - better than she expected (and better than she deserved!).

Oh, and Subrosa, we did withdraw her from State schooling, after just her first year. When the school told us that, because she could read already, she'd just have to spend lessons reading on her own while the rest of the class "caught up".

So we went private. Those GCSE's cost over 12 grand each.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put
the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely
off topic but I had to tell someone!
