Downfall's downfall

Bad news for fans of the endlessly amusing 'Downfall' spoofs to be found littering the sites of lazy bloggers across the world.

The makers of the original film (it was from a film? Who knew?) have demanded that Youtube immediately remove all of the spoofs that have so enthralled us.

But the most galling thing is that many of the downfall spoofs were used to take the piss out of Gordo' McBroon and his NuLabour chums. Now there's one less channel of mockery for the one-eyed son of the Manse, and all his woeful acolytes.

Are you wondering why Broon featured so often? Here's a review of the original film:

"..a long, riveting, detailed movie about a nation at the mercy of a poisonous ideology and a .. fanatic who has led them to the brink of an abyss.

Played with a horrifying intensity .. this Hitler is a petulant, capricious child who has imposed his will on everyone around him and created a system to enforce it."

Surely, there'll never be a more accurate satire...

It is highly likely that more people have watched the original Downfall as a result of seeing the meme, than those who saw the movie before that clip was spoofed.

Someone ought to realise the value of viral publicity.

Is there scope for making a "Downfall" spoof about a viral video maker who has discovered that all his videos have been taken down?

Germans in sense of humour failure shocker!

@patently: Only if you want the sheer density of recursion to finally suck the whole internet into a roiling singularity of strange loopy self-referentiality. Douglas Hofstadter says "Do it!"

:-D Sounds good to me!

Constantin Films have been saying this for years. When the parodies started appearing on the internet, they were ambivalent about it. They saw the advantage of the publicity, but also said they wanted to "protect their artists".

See here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8617454.stm

They soon came down on the "protect their artists" side and have been trying to take them down for years. It looks like the current situation of them going up as fast as they come down will continue for a while yet.
